Gloucestershire College, Forest of Dean

The Forest of Dean’s contemporary new Gloucestershire College Campus opened its doors offering students state-of-the-art facilities. Boasting panoramic views over the neighbouring Steam Mills Lake.

Barnwood Construction acted as the main contractors on the project working alongside Freeman Contracting who carried out the groundwork. The Campus was designed by Roberts Limbrick Architects, as an energy efficient, sealed building with environmental control and solar panels. It features big open-plan spaces, Construction Workshops, new Art and Creative Studios, a commercial training Restaurant along with a Graduations Hair and Beauty Salon.

Utilising ground improvement specialists, Envirosoil, using lime stabilisation on the ground at the site. This process turned otherwise unusable material from a former open coal mine into a workable construction product by dramatically reducing its moisture content, which then acted as an energy-saving alternative to transporting materials to and from site.
